Death and Resurrection No.17 (7/20/2024)

Scripture: Pro 3:14-15, Rev 3:17-18, etc.

The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field (Matt 13:44).

Over the last few services, we have learned about the values that Christians should have. People live their lives seeking things that are valuable to them. So, if their values are not good, they will live not according to God’s will and become Satan’s prey. Humans who have lost their spiritual eyesight because of sin cannot see things with the correct values taught in the Bible. Having been deceived by Satan, they have become his slaves, going after things that will eventually destroy them if pursued. According to the Bible, the truly precious and profitable thing that we should seek is as follows:

… for she (wisdom) is more profitable
than silver and yields better returns than gold.
She is more precious than rubies;
nothing you desire can compare with her (Pro 6:19-20).

When we lived as our old selves, we were unaware of the value of God’s wisdom, and our lives were devoted to seeking earthly good, social status and honor, and human wisdom to obtain them selfishly as our possessions. But in Christ, we have been transformed from that way of life into one that seeks things valuable before God and strives for his wisdom to understand his values. It is Christ’s death and resurrection, the “message (word) of the cross,” that has transformed us in this way.

For the message (word) of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God (1 Cor 1:18).
