Death and Resurrection No. 5 (4/27/2024)

Scripture: Gal 5:24-25, Luke 22:31-32, etc.

Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit (Gal 5:24- 25).

There are two ways for a man to live: one is to live in the spirit, and the other is to live in the flesh. Since these two beings, the spirit and soul, live in a person, the difference comes depending on which one sits on the throne or in the driver’s seat of a car. While one person drives the car, the other sits next to him and is led to go wherever the driver takes him. The two beings are the human spirit sent from God and the soul that was created at the time of the spirit’s indwelling.

… the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being (nephesh chayyah = living soul) (Gen 2:7).

What the Lord “formed” from the “dust of the ground” was the body of the man, and what he “breathed into his nostrils” was the human spirit. This spirit is called the “breath of life.” It is not the Holy Spirit of the Trinity God, but the human spirit sent to each human before his birth. These spirits were created by God like angels in heaven. The prophet Zechariah speaks of God Yahweh as the Crestor of heaven, earth, and man, particularly, “the spirit of man (ruach ‘adam)” as follows.

This is the word of the LORD concerning Israel. The LORD, who stretches out the heavens, who lays the foundation of the earth, and who forms the spirit of man within him, declares (Zech 12:1):

Also, in Proverbs, a human spirit is referred to as the “breath of man (nishmat ‘adam).”
