Christ's Ambassadors

Rev. Toru Asai

Christ’s Ambassadors No.11

Scripture : John 12:24-25, etc.

For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life (Rom 5:10)!

We were saved because of Christ’s sufferings—through his death and resurrection. Having been united with him by faith, we died with him and received the life he gave up. If Christ saved his life and did not lose it, we would remain in sin and still live under curses as God’s enemies, destined for eternal judgment.

Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation (Col 1:21-22)—

Christ’s death with his physical body occurred on earth. He sowed his life to the ground as a seed. He said:
I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds (John 12:24).

The earth was created from the beginning in such a way that we sow seeds and reap their fruit. In other words, our world is built upon the principle of sowing and reaping. Thus, Jesus said, “Unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed.” A seed is sowed by falling to the ground—the death of its own life on earth. Since this is a principle under which the earth is made, it applies to all of us. Jesus said:

The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life (v. 25).
