Christ's Ambassadors

Rev. Toru Asai

Christ’s Ambassadors No.12

Scripture : John 15:16, Zech ch. 3, etc.

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit–fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name (John 15:16).

Here is another way of describing our ministry of reconciliation as Christ’s ambassadors. Christ has sent us from God’s council to this world so that we will bear more fruit by bringing others to God’s kingdom through Christ. Our ministry is priestly in nature and intended to build and keep God’s house by offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to him.

As you come to him, the living Stone–rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him–you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ (1 Pet 2:4-5).

These two metaphors concerning the spiritual status of believers in Christ are combined and revealed in the fourth vision Zechariah saw.

Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right side to accuse him (Zech 3:1).

The scene of this vision was in the heavenly council. As an angel of the Lord was talking to Joshua, the high priest, Satan came and questioned Joshua’s eligibility to participate in the council. However:
