Winter Bible Seminar 2024  “Here I am, Call me!” will be held on 12/25 (Wed) – 12/31 (Tue) at Davar Church. Now Accepting Applications!
Take courage! It is I.
Don’t be afraid (Matt 14:27).
When a storm hit the disciples in the middle of the lake, and the boat was about to sink, Jesus walked nearby and spoke these words. They thought that Jesus was still on the hill on the other side of the lake and not with them. So, was he not with them?
He calls me,
and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him (Ps 91:15).
We Christians are not atheists and believe in the existence of God. However, being a theist is not the same as believing in God, who is with you. “When he calls on me” indicates that this person believes in God’s presence with him, and the promise is “I will answer him.”
And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists (is) and that he rewards those who seek him (Heb. 11:6).
Does “he exists” refer to theism? Note that “whoever would draw near to God” are “those who seek him.” Those who do not believe in God’s presence are far from him and do not ask. That is why Jesus said to his disciples many times:
Ask and it will be given to you;
Seek and you will find;
Knock and the door will be opened to you (Luke 11:9).
God is everywhere at all times. Whether you come near to God by believing in his presence depends on you.
Come near to God and he will come near to you (James 4:8).
Faith in God’s presence makes your earthly life abundant, not your knowledge of the Bible, religious piety, fleshly zeal, or how long you have been a Christian. That is why our Lord always says,
Here I am, call me!
