Clap your hands, all you nations;
shout to God with cries of joy.
How awesome is the LORD Most High,
the great King over all the earth (Ps 47:1-2)!
The Bible urges and commands all humans, all creatures, and, of course, the angels who live in the spiritual world to rejoice and praise God. Why?
Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth,
burst into jubilant song with music (98:4).
Notice how the words like “shout” and “joy” are used in these Scriptures. Apparently, there’s a difference between just saying “Hallelujah” and shouting “Hallelujah!” joyfully.
Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.
Worship the LORD with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs (100:1-2).
Why does the Bible encourage us to rejoice, shout, and praise the Lord? Speaking of rejoicing, we also find the following Scripture:
I rejoice at your word
like one who finds great spoil (Ps 119:162 ESV)
When we hear the Word and realize it is true, we say, “Amen!” This psalm figuratively expresses such joy in the Word as finding a great spoil. Admittedly, understanding, receiving, and believing God’s word is closely related to joy. Can you explain why? At one time, the Lord showed Jeremiah an almond branch and said:
You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled (Jer 1:12).
Ho! Blessed are those who believe that what Almighty God said will be fulfilled! Amen!
Delight yourself in the LORD
and he will give you the desires of your heart (Ps 37:4).
Halleluiah!
